Rhianne O'Donnell runner up at SW Area Academy Closed
Sydenham Junior squash player Rhianne O'Donnell finished runner up in
the girls' U13 category at the SW Area Academy Closed held at the
Exeter Golf and Country Club on 7th and 8th of October. Featuring
players form Cornwall, Devon, Dorset, Somerset, Avon, Wiltshire and
Gloucestershire, the Area Academy provides a pathway from County to
National level. Finalist are invited to training sessions run by
England Squash high performance coaches
Rhianne, currently ranked 9 in England, was 2nd seed for this event and progressed with wins over Katie Alcock from Dorset and Gloucestershire's Emily Penkett before a more testing semi final with another Gloucestershire player Kip Quiney. Rhianne recovered from a game down to win 3-1 and reach the final against the number 1 seed and England number 7, Victoria Temple-Murray from Devon.
Victoria had a easier path to the final without dropping a game. An entertaining match before a large crowd on the show court saw the stronger Devon girl triumph 3-0.

Sydenham 1 are Somerset Junior League Champions for the first time in the club's history. Sydenham 3 were runners up in division 2

Latest ranking news: Emma Chorley ended her Junior career at No.2 in the U19 rankings. Emma will commence her professional career playing for Bristol,?the newly established Premier Squash League team. Team mates include England International and World No. 17 Adrian Grant, Joseph Kniepp and David Evan. Emma could face opposition including world current no.1 Nicol David, former?no.1 Sarah Fitzgerald and English number 1 Linda Elriani
In the latest U13 October rankings Rhianne O'Donnell moves up to number 9 in England while Levi Searle is at 88 in the boys U15
